On Thursday, February 2, the Leeds & Grenville Community Family Health Team (LGCFHT) welcomed celebrity Dr. Marla Shapiro to its Brockville site for a lunchtime educational opportunity for all staff members.
According to Linda Bisonette, LGCFHT Clinical Program Manager, Shapiro provided an excellent presentation on the subject of herpes zoster (also known as shingles), where she shared her intense belief that the vaccine should be offered to most patients over the age of 50.
LGCFHT physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, management and administrative staff from both the Brockville and Gananoque clinics benefitted from the event, as a video from the presentation was provided to the Gananoque clinic the same day.
“She is a phenomenal speaker,” said Dr. Andrew Jordan, lead physician. “She’s a wonderfully educated and talented physician. We were thrilled to have her share her insights with us.”
“She provided an excellent presentation, and I would like to have her back to speak on other topics,” said Executive Director Jenny Lane.
Bisonette worked with Merck Canada to make this learning opportunity possible for the LGCFHT team. Due to the success of the event, Bisonette has arranged for Shapiro to return on April 20 to speak about other areas of interest and expertise.
